Final Project Statement
Our game is an infinite runner platformer where the player plays as a little pegasus collecting food in the sky. The player collects points based on how many ice creams they collect, but they lose points when they hit a cat. An important part of the game is that we wanted interactions with each kind of platform to be unique to that platform, so candy canes are sturdy, clouds bounce you, and s’mores break under you. After playtesting with the class though, a lot changed for us in the direction we went in as we initially weren’t going to make an infinite runner, but many playtesters said our game felt like one so it made sense to lean more into that direction. We also added a high scores display during and after rounds to give a more arcade feel since our game slightly felt like one because of our pixel art. Playtesting also helped us recognize small issues with the feel of our game physics (like jumping and horizontal movement) and we also discovered new bugs that we didn’t see before. We feel we worked very well as a team and the workload was pretty evenly split between the art and programming.
(Our playtesting documentation is uploaded as a pdf under our game on here.)
